Bought a mountain bike (shout out to Moore's Bicycle Shop of Rocky Mount, NC; check my review), and Medoc Mountain was my first real place to try it out. Location-wise, it's 30-45 minutes from Rocky Mount. This place has what seems like endless trails for mountain biking, and I think the time I chose to go (late on a Wednesday afternoon) made it so that I pretty much had the trails all to myself. I was there for maybe 3 hours riding trails, and still don't think I saw all there was to see. The terrain is exciting (rock, dirt, tree roots, inclines, declines, etc, all in the woods), and you can pause by the river for a nice break and peaceful scenery). I was riding in the rain and the cover of trees kept me fairly dry. All in all, I did about 12 miles of bike riding here, and would not mind going back to cover the areas I didn't reach the first time around. Also, great for those seeking walking trails (bike trails and hiking trails are separated and labeled by signs, and have 911 location markers along the routes in case of emergencies). Park playground, picnicking, camping, sun-tanning in open meadows, biking, hiking - Medoc Mountain State Park has it all.
