A truly incredible place. Felt like we were on another planet, or on a Star Wars set. Bring hat, sunscreen and water. We kept the power lines along the road in eye sight so we knew where to head back. Would love to come back and explore again. We never did find the "alien throne" but going in the afternoon it got too hot to stay out.
For those NOT in 4wd or a high clearance car, pack in some time. Google Maps told us about 25 mins along these dirt roads, but it took about 1.5 hours..... We had to go 5-10mph pretty much the whole time because our car was low to the ground. Its really off road, VERY bumpy, not well maintained. Coming from 550, we took 7820 out to 57 and tried taking 57 back, they both took forever, couldn't say which one was better. You can make it out there in a Sedan, just go slow.
There is a "parking lot" and sign for the Ah-shi-sle-pah Wilderness Study Area. Follow the trail out and you will be amazed! And of course, download your maps before you go, no service.
