We came to Lake Hopewell Campground on the recommendation of some locals in Taos. The campground is a minute up the road from the lake in the woods. There are plenty of spots but you should show up in the morning in the busy season to get one. Each spot has a picnic table and fire pit. There are pit toilets spread throughout the campground but can be a bit of a walk in the middle of the night depending on the site you are camping in. Not all the sites have good spots for tents. Finally, we had to use a gas stove due to fire restrictions on the national forest.

Overall the campground was very nice. It was clean and everyone was very considerate of one another. I would recommend it.

Things to do:

Hiking

Horseback riding (there is one site with a small corral)

Stargazing

Fishing (at the lake, not the campground)

Birding List for My Trip

Ruby Crowned Kinglet

Raven

Chickadee

Flicker

Mountain Bluebird

Canada Goose

Koot

Many many others that I did not identify.
