Decided to stay at this place back in the summer due to all I have read about it that Adam has posted. I had understood that this campground offered free stays for Veterans is one of the main reason I had decided to stay well this isn’t exactly true. When I called to make reservations the lady I spoke to informed me that all their Veterans cabins were booked and that she could put me in their newest cabin. First of all if you only let veterans stay free if you only have certain cabins for that purpose you should be honest about that in all your advertising and blogs about the campground but this was the first I had heard this. I went ahead and booked three nights much to my later disappointment. I drove down from Missouri to the campground to be somewhat disappointed with the setting, found it to be quite underdeveloped as a campground from my experience. I checked in to their “newest” cabin as I was told it was, upon entering I immediately turned on the A/C as the room was blazing hot and it took well into the night before the room ever began to cool down. I found not one single wall hook to hang anything on, no chair to sit in other than a couple of flimsy chairs at the table, nothing was ever said at the time of my reservation about bringing your own kitchen necessities, there was one shallow pan and that was it for kitchen supplies. Bathroom was so small I could not close the door while sitting on the toilet, not very well thought out as far as layout design goes. The toilet gurgled all night long and in the morning would not function, when I informed the office about it the lady said “oh it must have developed an air lock again”, so I assumed it was a reoccurring issue. The room was quite small but did have a nice bed and fridge. Only place to place luggage other than the floor or bed was a small “L” shaped wooden bench tucked back behind a loft staircase. I went to the office to ask where the nearest grocery store was and the lady acted as though I was a bother to her and after giving me directIons she scolded me for having my dog off leash for no more than 30 seconds while I got the leash out of my vehicle and hocked him up. I also walked the dog down to the water to see what it would be like for swimming as it was quite hot out, I found the river to not be flowing and the water stagnant and green with algae. I decided to cut my stay short and checked out the next morning only to be told they could not refund my credit card and could only give me a credit toward a future stay, I just told the lady to give it to some other veteran in the future. My recommendations after my one night stay would be first of all TOTAL HONESTY in advertising veterans stay free, if you say that then it shouldn’t matter what cabin they stay in to get a free stay, otherwise make it clear that you only have a few certain cabins that qualify for a free stay. Also add some clothes hooks inside your cabin to be able to hang a few items like a damp towel or kitchen dish cloth or few items of clothing, and inform guest upon making a reservation that you need to bring your own kitchen cookware and such. I gave this review a one star rating simply because it had a comfy bed. Sorry but can’t recommend this campground for veterans it’s just not as veteran friendly as it is hyped up to be, won’t stay here again.
