The hike itself is straight up most of the way. There's brush that's really low and dry so its hard to tell where exactly the drop off is and your just getting scratched from all the dry stuff underneath the greenery. Nothing life threatening but you'll come out of the trail with scratches for sure. Its hot so bring extra water and sunscreen. We took our 10, 8, and 6 year old. Enjoy the scenery when you get there. Stay on the main trail. There are other trails that head off in different directions but I think thats where other hikers end up lost and we end up seeing them late at night with the flashlights trying to find a way out. (We live just on the other side of Kahana)

Be safe but have fun!
