The campgrounds arent private at all and not well regulated however it's still very nice for a campsite.
The little trail that goes up the canyon is barely a half mile, but it is still super nice to sit and enjoy the shade in a grove of trees near a small pond of collected rain water. The echos from the surrounding area and gorgeous red rock cliff walls are worth the small trek if you'd like to sit and enjoy lunch but not have to do anything strenuous.
