I give this campground a 3-star due to the "burned-out" tree line (& lack) of majestic Idaho scenery. We stayed in campsite #4, decent mid-day and afternoon shade. Would not recommend Site #5 (no shade what-so-ever) or Site 3 is OK (no afternoon shade). Site #2 is the nicest (for shade and trees) and Sites 1 & 6 are decent pull-through. We did 65 miles of trails from this campground (351 to 551 to 594 to the town of Lowman, and 380 up to Pilot Peak - incredible view of much of this region, perhaps 100mi in every direction). Met folks who did the trail ride up from Idaho City. That would be a nice ride, trees are not burned-out on that side of the summit. Everything burned-out pretty much north of Mores Creek Summit. The "Equestrian" part of this campground is that they have rectangular log bins to put a bale or two of hay in and tie your horse up to.
