We do alot of backwoods camping all over Southeast Iowa and ran across Skunk River Access by accident.

We were told by locals in a nearby town that it wasn't safe for people with children to camp there at night because of all the meth-heads and drunks congregate there at night.

We have camped there 3 times and is probably in our top 5 places to primitive camp. There was some late night visitor's but once they seen we were there they pulled out and left.

We have a large pitbull and my wife and i both carry sidearms but we never felt threatened.

The fishing is great for small channel cat and the occasional crappie. We would give it a 5 star but there was some issue with prior campers leaving trash, broken bottles and other "gross item's" which should be more supervised by the DNR/Conservation Office.

Other than that, its a neat little quite place to getaway for the whole family and our kids loved swimming to the sandbars that were exposed at the time we were there.
