I'm an industrial electrician who travels for a living. My wife travels with me and she's the one that actually found this place. The kampground is just that. It's a very nice piece of land with several lightly furnished single and family cabins, 10 or so rv spots, and a small but quite beautiful fishing pond. The place is surrounded and shaded by some of the biggest oak, walnut and ponderosa pines I've seen. There are fire pits, picnic tables, and outside counter and prep tables complete with sinks, and a nice big propane grill for anyone to use. There are public toilets and showers like if you were camping at the lake. Firewood and ice are available upon request. Firewood has a small fee but the price is very reasonable and most times Steve the owner and his lovely wife Jeanine just try and wave you off while delivering your wood or ice right to your cabin door! Such nice people, and very personable. We stayed for several weeks and during the week it was nice and quiet, and then one or two weekends there were some "requlars" playing some live bluegrass! We spent several nights just relaxing around the fire. Springfield, groceries and gas are 20 minutes away and there is some really cool historical chit like Lincolns family home (pics posted here) and civil war cemeteries in the area. Two miles down the road the other direction, there's a small mom and pop convince store. It closees at 8 or 9 but is good for cigs, sodas or munchies without the 20 min drive into Springfield. The only drawback is there are no televisions and the wi fi isn't great but that's not REALLY a negative in MY book. Lovely place, lovely owners and my wife and I will DEFINITELY stay when we come back through. Steve, Jeanine, thank you so much for a nice reprieve in the midst of the rat race and for your wonderful and refreshing hospitality. Hope to see you again my friends!!
