The outside of billeting in Barstow does not look so nice. But don’t let this fool you….the inside of the units are IMPRESSIVELY SPOTLESS, Marine Corps squeaky clean😀! A definite compliment to the lady who cleans these rooms. I think her name is Alicia. The units are like little mini suites. The bedroom is separate from the living area. It has a microwave and a little mini fridge with a big screen TV and cable. It looks like these units have been recently updated. In the separate living area is a pull out couch, perfect for a family of 4. Previous to our stay here at the Marine Corps Base Barstow, we had spent 7 hours in 117° weather. We had mechanical problems with our motorhome, and while waiting for a tow, both air conditioners went out so we had to sit in our Prius for 4 hours. The manager of billeting is named Hannah. She was so incredibly nice, kind, and compassionate. They close at 4 PM but when I didn’t show up by then (due to multiple towing issues), she called me and actually WAITED past her regular hours so we could check in. Apparently, the other lady at the front desk (Who is also the same lady who cleans the rooms ) does this very same thing for people. Hannah even turned on the air conditioning in our room so it would be a cool place for us to be after terrifying ordeal we had just gone through. In this day and age, where everyone seems to do the least amount of work possible, this wonderful person went above and beyond and autographed her work with excellence. I would not hesitate to stay here again. I absolutely love our Marine Corps family. I feel like they are so much more service oriented and I’ve always come across extremely kind people on military bases. Most everyone I’ve encountered seems to understand what the word respect means they exercise it . The civilian world could learn a lot from the way it’s done in the world of our Armed Forces.
