My boyfriend and I had a spot booked for our first night (of three) we spent in the area exploring Yosemite. We were originally very impressed with the thought put into this campground- clean bathrooms, trash bags and water ready at every site, relatively quiet and not crowded. Unfortunately, this was all ruined by how we were treated by the camp hosts as we were packing up to leave in the morning. They approached us in their golf cart (male and female) and demanded we pay them an additional $30, as well as threatened to report us to rec.gov, for moving to an open spot directly next to the one we had booked and which was marked available (it was too small for our large tent). They refused any attempts at rational conversation and apologies and then proceeded to pull their golf cart in front of our car, blocking us in, threatening our personal space and belongings, and quite honestly jarring both of us enough to leave us scared for our safety and feeling extremely threatened. The hosts used aggression and intimidation to get us to throw out an additional $30 for a spot we had already paid for (and the campground was not full). We are courteous and seasoned campers, left the site clean, disposed of our waste and stored food properly, and pointed this out to them as well as profusely apologizing for the misunderstanding, but they continued to harass us while we tried to resolve the issue calmly. After we gave them the $30 cash they still continued to say they were going to report us to rec.gov and thus prevent us from booking ANY sites in the future (“I’m still going to write you up because I don’t like your attitude”) and proceeded to circle around my vehicle to get my license plate number. We will never be coming back to this campsite because of how the hosts treated us. I hope they will have more compassion and respect for other campers in future misunderstandings and I hope rec.gov cares enough about their campers to employ hosts that make their visitors feel protected and welcome, not harassed and scared.
