This is a very conveniently located, no-frills campground located just a mile east of the shops and restaurants of Tahoe City. It is only $20/day, compared to $35 for the state-run campground next to Safeway/CVS. It is first come-first serve, so when summer ramps up, you just have to drive in and hope there's a spot open.
