Had a great time! When you get to the campground, Mr. Gum drives a blue truck and is usually driving around the camp but if not, go to the yellow house on the hill (on the right as soon as you see the Whittaker sign) and ask for Mr. Gum. You'll probably be greeted by his wife who will tell you which cabin to go to and that he will meet you there to show you around and give you the keys. Mr. Gum is a great guy and gives a military discount if you mention being in the service. The cabin we stayed in was the largest and was great. It was warm, had a stove, microwave, sink, fridge, dining table, 2 couches, and 2 queen beds (one was a low head space bunk) and a bathroom with toilet, shower, and sink. We paid $150 a night cash after discount. The other cabins are smaller and cheaper but not as many amenities. There is NO INTERNET anywhere within about a 25 minute drive or at the campground so plan ahead.
Mr. Gum is super OLD SCHOOL! Lol he uses a paper ledger and is very forgetful but a great guy so call a couple times and make sure he still remembers you're coming and who you are and which cabin you want and times and dates you'll be checking in.
You have to call for reservations and we had no issue whatsoever getting ahold of him. He always answered or called back within maybe an hr or so.
15 min drive to Snowshoe from parking lot to parking lot. DOG FRIENDLY 😁🐕 too!! We brought our pit with us and he loved it. It's very quiet and relaxing there!! Closest gas station and grocery store is about 25-30 minutes out so prepare for that also.
He has cabins, tent camping, and spaces for RV hookups.
We will definitely be back!
