We didn't stay at this hut; it was merely one of many places we passed on our 15 mile loop hike. We did stop to eat lunch here and talk with the PATC gentleman who was doing some groundskeeping. We finished eating about the same time the PATC guy finished and left, and as soon as he did, a huge black bear entered the hut to inspect his work! (and probably sniff for food!). The bear must have been lying in wait, because it seemed awfully coincidental that the second the guy left the bear appeared. In any case, it was the highlight of our hike and one of the few bears we've seen in Shenandoah. To keep the bears and people safe, please remember to never feed the wildlife in the park.
