I stopped her on a whim as I was checking out the trailhead for a hike I was planning to do the next morning. Not wanting to drive far, I saw a sign for the horse campground, and thought I'd ask if they accept tent campers.

I was welcomed into the facility by several horse camping people, and also met one of the owners who was surrounded by happy bounding dogs that loved all over me. She took the time to show me where the tent area was, and it was secluded and beautiful. I appreciated that they were able to accommodate a "walk in", and I happily set up my tent.

The facility is well maintained, cleaned, and beautiful. There are no showers or flush toilets, but the porta-potty was spotless. There are also some sodas that you can purchase, and a sink station, and lots of water spigots throughout.

I spent the evening sitting around a picnic table with a horse club, as they kindly invited me to join them. I learned about horse trailers (I know nothing about that stuff), and what horses can and can't do on trails. We also all shared some funny stories from our outdoor adventures.

I awoke and enjoyed my cup of coffee in the field, watching all the goings-on of the farm, and the dogs and sheep milling about. With the ridgeline in the back, it was the best way to spend a morning.

Thank you to the owners for welcoming me and their hospitality. This is a hidden gem for day hikers and backpackers, looking for a quiet bit of rest among the lovely horses.
