Stayed at Kerr Lake 1 other time but at a different campsite.
We camped with our 3 dogs and ended up rushing one of them to ER 1.5hours away. They are supposed to clean the campsite after checking out but it was pretty clear, they didn't clean up one item. There were so many fully intact cat fish skeletons on the campsite. My dog bit into one as soon as we got there and was bleeding from the mouth. Luckily we pulled it out in time before swallowing it. We searched the camp site more thoroughly and found an additional 5 skeletons.
The site was littered with cigarette butts that we spent a good amount of time picking up what we could so our dogs wouldn't eat any.
The following day our dog stepped on yet another fish skeleton we hadn't seen which cut his paw pad. We washed and wrapped throughout the day but by nightfall it was pretty swollen and red and wouldn't put weight on it. There is nothing in the area so we drove 1.5 hours away to ER vet.
Do a better job cleaning up after people checkout.
