Even though access to/from I-10 is super-easy, it can't be denied that the place is old. The electrical and sewer connections at the sites are antiquated, the water sees so little use that you need to flush the sediment before you connect your RV, and the asphalt roads/sites are craggy and broken.

Forget about those things. They are easy to work with and overcome. Any business is only as good as the people running it and how it treats its customers. The finest facilities in the world are meaningless if the staff is rude, unhelpful, or unwelcoming. The nice people running the Oak Leaf know that what they have isn't the best, but they work VERY HARD to make the best of it. They help in any way they can to get you into a site, settled in, connected, and comfortable.

We actually pulled in at midnight after finding ourselves stranded due to an identity thief draining our bank account while we were on vacation. They were completely understanding of our plight and patient as can be while we struggled to get our hands on money during a holiday weekend when no banks, offices, or other businesses were open, assuring us that we could pay for the site when the issues were resolved. During the hottest part of a hot July day, our second air conditioner starting tripping breakers from cycling too often. Our only remedy to keep the motorhome bearable was to set an auxiliary generator on the ground next to the camper and run the second A/C on that, hoping that they or the neighbors wouldn't be bothered too much by the noise. The staff assured me that the generator was no problem, as long as we didn't run it after quiet hours (which we obviously wouldn't think of doing). When I explained why we were running it, they promptly produced a power adapter for us to run it on the vacant site next door, free of charge, to borrow for as long as we needed.

That level of understanding, patience, consideration, and service is so rare. If you find yourself close to the TX/LA border on either side and need to stop for the night, or if you will be in the Orange/Vidor/Beaumont area for business or pleasure, skip the other options and stay at the Oak Leaf. The kindness and effort of the staff WILL earn your repeat business!
