We could not rate rooms or service because we only used an RV site and we have our own bathroom, shower, etc. We gave an overall rating of 2 stars because there is soooo much potential for OTV to be a really cool place, and we typically give the benefit of the doubt and rarely leave poor reviews. Unfortunately, our experience was quite miserable--some is probably outside of their control and some is within their control. Again, we were the only RV there and none of the vintage RVs or tents seemed to be occupied. The sites themselves were a bit run down/not very well maintained. Grass is overgrown and full of burrs. We could not take our dog out for exercise because of not only the burrs, but also the flies. There are burrs in everything! We HAD to take her out for potty breaks, and even though they were quick in/out, her paws and tail would be covered in burrs. The house flies are altogether unbearable. We had no knowledge of them prior to our arrival. Is this a seasonal thing? A Texas thing? We had experienced some flies in the Austin and Boerne areas, but NOTHING LIKE what we found in Hico. We were on a two day stop over on our way back to NC and could not go outside. In addition, there were four cats, one of which was a fully intact male that marked anything and everything we had outside--outdoor mats, chairs (which we were not able to use--wishing we had just put them away), tires, etc. We had to throw away our large outdoor mat because it smelled so badly. We did get into Hico for a lunch and dinner, and it is an adorable town with some really cool shops, a winery, and a few restaurants. Hico looks as though they are truly investing in their downtown area and would be a lovely weekend getaway. However, the social media and website for the Off the Vine RV Park presented a picture that seems off--we were really excited to see it, and yet ended up overall very disappointed.
