About Campground

The campground is operated by the BLM and offers 18 camping sites. In the 1930s and 1940s, this was the site of Lassen airstrip. Year-round air service replaced winter-only sleds delivering equipment and fuel to mining camps on Jack Wade Creek.

This is a park on BLM land. No hookups but potable water going in. Nice park along the Fourty Mile River. Free firewood. Host was very friendly, restrooms were spotless with hand sanitizer. First come first served.

My wife and I camped here during the summer this last year, 2017. The campground is clean, inexpensive, and rumor has it that there are fish in the river. The ranger/caretaker was a great guy who checked in with all campers, helped with wood, and was doing a tremendous job taking care of the place. This is a good stop after visiting Chicken, or before heading into Chicken after being in Dawson City. Take your time. The scenery is great and the road is hard on tires. Make sure to read that last sentence a couple of times.
