About Campground

There are 42 basic campsites in Thorny Ridge. The pads are between 47 and 60 feet in length and the four family sites have an extra pad between 52 and 55 feet long and an additional electric hookup. You will be close to the lake no matter which site you choose at Thorny Ridge because this campground is on a peninsula that juts right out onto the water. In fact, the boat ramp is at the end of the road by campsite 157. There is a parking lot at the boat ramp large enough to accommodate a trailer as well as an RV for the day while you take your boat out for the day. You will find the shower house, restrooms, and laundry facilities right in the middle of the campsite by the camp host site 166. The water, showers, and RV dump station are turned off during the off-season so bring your own water during that time. Pets are welcome but they have to be on a leash or restrained at all times.

We absolutely love this campground. It's well taken care of and maintained. The park staff is super friendly and knowledgeable. We always stay on this arm of the camp site (but I won't tell you which site, we want it for ourselves!) because of the great lakes views and closeness to shore. We get a family site if friends will be joining or a regular for just me, the SO, and the pup. The water is usually pretty clean.

Great area in Truman State Park. Nice boat ramp. Needs a little more parking.

We stayed at the Thorny Ridge Campground. Beautiful hills and lake, but be careful when choosing a campsite. Avoid sites with lots of dead leaves. Just before sunset, the flying cockroaches and mayflies came out of them to join us for dinner. Around 10:30-11:00pm, the opossums started working their way through the dead leaves looking for these insects to eat. And the boats continued to go by well past 1am.

The staff were friendly and helpful, and the bathrooms were clean.

we stayed at site 180 and it was perfect for us! the campground wasn't crowded, even for a holiday weekend. the campsite had a little trail to the lake that was great for our family. we saw a couple bald eagles across the inlet. the bathrooms were clean and we had no mosquitos. my only complaint is that the water spigot by the bathroom... the water was kind of green. it's about a 6 how drive for me (my kids live closer so that's why we went) but i would totally go again!

Great state park. The people who run the marina store are amazing. So welcoming and friendly. Had a great time even though it was 100 plus degrees out this past week. We have found our go to camping spot for many future trips.
