The Refuge on Roanoke Island is a camping community located in the fishing Village of Wanchese, North Carolina. We welcome you to stay for the night, a week, or pick your favorite spot to reserve all year long. We have 59 sites with full hookups, 44 are year long leases, and the rest are waterfront and available for daily campers.
We are getting ready for the season here on the beautiful Outer Banks and couldn't be more excited to see what next year has to offer. The plants, bushes and trees are starting to fill out and the flowers will be blooming again before you know it. Camp manager Kathy is rude and incompetent. So is her husband when he fills in. Owner is new. (6 months). No contact from her as requested. No fires allowed. No mats allowed. Not the cleanest place. WiFi is horrible. Mainly the service by staff is so bad we won’t be going there again.
A wonderful campsite that is definitely worth every dollar! If you are looking for a place in the area, you should definitely book this one. It's clean, well maintained, has a pool and a wonderful pond..it couldn't be better! Also, Kathy, the lady who runs the place, is just wonderful! She is available with heart and passion for every question and makes EVERYTHING possible! we had a breakdown with our camper and kathy found a car service within a few hours, accommodated us in a motel and looked after us perfectly. dear kathy, a thousand thanks for everything!❤️
Beautiful campground, excellent bath houses quiet area close to fishing !! Stayed thurs through sept 23. Camp host was great and very helpful. Supposed to have left saturday morning but due to weather I wanted to extend the one night so my son and I could leave in dryer conditions. Wasnt a problem at all. Thank you for the great weekend! Even though Miss Opehiela had other plans for us.
Very nice, well maintained campground. Most spots are year round, but they keep quite a few nightly rentals available. Best to reserve in advance. Bathhouse/showers very clean and comfortable. Nice laundry facilities. Gas station/convenience store right next door. Friday night we went to the marina, they have a tiki bar with food truck there. They also had a great band playing that night. And this was in September. Great time, friendly people.
