This recreation area is part of Whitney Lake
The park is in need of, a lot of maintenance. Weeds and vines everywhere they shouldn't be. Some camp sites you can't even get to the table for the vines.The roads going to this place are rougher than a corn cob. Trash everywhere broken beer bottles. Looks nothing like the pics. Where was the volleyball area? Can't figure that one out. Looks like someone totally forgot this place. Shame, it's on a nice part of the river.
Secluded primitive camping is nice. Also good fishing right on the river. I would have given it 5 stars but..looks like it has not been mowed in a couple months. Also there's a bunch of trash left out there by previous campers. Place has tons of potential. Just needs some TLC and respect by those who camp there.
We've been going here for 50 years because it's close and familiar. There are much better places for camping and I wouldn't swim here but it's usually not crowded at all and it's a decent place to try to fish a little and just enjoy the outdoors.
This place is a diamond in the rough. But when I say rough I mean ROUGH. Lots of trash and not very maintained. That being said, the grounds are really pretty even in the current state. Covered picnic tables at the campsites which are 5$!!!! It is at a GREAT part of the brazos. I will visit again.
Amazing place if you enjoy anything from fishing,hiking,picnics,volleyball and nature.
