This historic tree nursery, in its beautiful setting, has many features to offer including a visitor center, arboretum, memorial grounds, and cabins to rent.
Friendly volunteer staff, clean bathrooms, beautiful place for a rest stop.
A former ccc camp, the original nursery for the forestry service. Beautiful property, the museum gives history of the ccc camp, the origins of the nursery and subsequent takeover by the USFS. The was also a room dedicated to Smoke Chasers and the fire lookouts across the area. The volunteer docent was friendly and knowledgeable.
As you travel I-90 in western MT, stop to stretch at Savenac. No longer a tree nursery, but you can visit historic buildings, camp, and walk or hike on the grounds. Rescued from decay by Forest Service staff and dedicated volunteers in the 1990s, the remaining buildings look great. Enjoy our Public Lands!
Here's a picture of my experience on a 10 day spike camp improving a trail out of Thomson falls up willks creek .we had 5 guys and 5 girls .so the mules could bring supplies for a hunting camp up there we had a portable kitchen and wall tents to stay in
The cottages are amazing. Such a peaceful and beautiful place. Check out the visitors center for history on the area.
