For those looking for a "top of the mountain" scenic view, this is great - IF you have the right SMALL rig to get up the hill. Our group camping plan was cut short when Taneum Campground in Thorp suddenly closed due to fires. We stopped at the Thorpe fruit stand to reconvene on a backup plan of where to go. We asked several locals while we were there, all of which highly recommended "go to Reecer Creek Park!" We asked several times....we have our large travel trailers and one huge motorhome coming....we can make it up and in there, yes? No one disputed we'd have trouble. So, onward we went. First, the park is a good 40 minutes from HWY 90. Then, once you hit the park entrance, it's 12 miles up. With our travel trailers and heavy trucks, it was tight, windy, and very slow going - so much that both rigs had to stop to let transmission temps cool. Sheer drops and nowhere to turnaround until you're a good 15 minutes up. You'd have to continue onward the full 12 miles until you could find somewhere to actually camp....which we did not do, because there was NO WAY we were continuing upwards, especially with an RV that was still planning to join our group. While there was still daylight, we made the safe bet to find a different place to go....Naches. I'm posting this so that someone else hauling a trailer or larger load doesn't make the same mistake. This is not a "camping in the woods spread out" type park. We wasted a good 2 hours going up/back to this place.
