From town: Go 5 mi N on 3 Capes Scenic Hwy.
I just got back from a short camping-trip from Whalen Island. To briefly sum up my experience: I had a great time here; this island is an awesome spot where I will surely come back soon!
Whalen Island and the Clay Myers State Natural Area is a truly great little get-away spot right off the coast -- you can see and hear the ocean from some parts of the island. The camp site is rather small: only a handful of sites at the southern part of the island, one clean and equipped restroom-building, and hospitable and friendly camp hosts. The camp sites are close to each other, but you will still have plenty of privacy; and since it's a smaller camp, it's much more quiet and peaceful than other camps along the coast. The island is beautiful, filled with nature and wildlife. It's a perfect little camp!
If you are looking for a place just to relax and unwind. This Campground is the place. There is no internet or phone services and no shower on the campground. It has beautiful views of the bay.
A new discovery this year. We were just visiting, not camping, and the light and views over the water were just spectacular. Very peaceful.
Driving through the 3 capes area looking for a camp site for the night for our RV. We passed a lot of private full hook up sites. We prefer to "boondock " and come across this place.
There was only us there until another RV turned up after dark.
Scenic peaceful area overlooking sandy Bay full of wild birds, blue herons, egrets, rabbits.
If you're looking for simple out of the way and from crowds stay here.
