Crystal Creek is a small campground near Mud Lake.
From Philipsburg go South on Highway 1 for approximately 6 miles. Turn southwest on Skalkaho Highway (Highway 38) and continue for approximately 25 miles. Follow the signs to the campground.
If you like camping in the middle of nowhere this is the place for you!
Beautiful, quiet, bright blue sunny skies, and 45º during the daytime in August.
This was a lovely spot for an overnight trip up Skalkaho. There are only 3 spots, all right off the highway but tucked up against a creek which sounded lovely all night. There is a toilet, and each site has a picnic table, a fire ring, and a spot for a tent. Plenty of room between sites so you're not bumping up against your neighbor. Trees all around which provide shade and the opportunity for hammock camping! Bring bug spray, and prepare for it to be cold at night.
No crystals as far as I can tell. Found some purple jasper or chert. Nice view on top of the mountain. Road wasn’t too bad getting here and the camping is free.
