A bit of a hidden gem. Volcanic formations, miles of empty desert landscapes, and lovely sand dunes. Definitely fuel up and have plenty of provisions before visiting, but this is a lovely place for quiet contemplation.
This place is absolutely breathtaking and deserves to be a national park rather than just a national preserve. It has everything you would find in Death Valley and Joshua Tree plus much more including caverns and cindercone volcanoes.
Beautiful drive in and out but very desolate. Make sure you have good and water. Especially gas. Loved the short rings trail - do it!! Saw gorgeous colorful mountains, sand dunes, flat flat desert floors. Scenery is just spectacular
