As of 9/7/22 the Manchester campground is closed to camping for the season. The environmental sites have been permanently closed to camping.
Day use remains open to the public.
Manchester State Park features a beach, sand dunes, and flat grasslands, with nearly 18,000 feet of ocean frontage. The beach line curves gently to form a "catch basin" for sea debris, which accounts for the volume of driftwood found here. Five miles of gentle, sandy beach stretches southward towards the Point Arena Lighthouse.
The park surrounds the town of Manchester; the beach entrance is ½ mile north of town on Highway One.
Mysterious mood (when we visited) and miles and miles of beach to walk and enjoy the force of the Pacific Ocean. Lots of parking available, beautiful vegetation - possibly one of my favourite places in the world
I was planning of coming up and staying at the KOA, does the beach allow dogs on it?.
any advice would help.
Very pleasant beach if you want to get some ocean on you and do as we did, take a nap with the background of soothing surf! We visited on a weekday afternoon in August and saw maybe 2 or 3 other people. Nice gentle walk getting there.
Very nice beach! Many miles long, starting just north of the Point Arena Lighthouse. Great dunes between beach and highway, two good parking options, look for beach access signs before and after the town of Manchester. Southern parking lot has a lenghty path through the dunes to the beach, probably 3/4 of a mile. If you plan to carry more than a backpack be prepared to haul it through a nice scenery but on fine sand! The beach itself has great sand too but it is regularly rather cold and windy, for sunbathing not the best place. But nice walks, plenty of birds to see, tons of drift wood, sometimes you can spot deers in the southern part of the dunes. Usually very few people
Choosing the correct trail was needed because long stretches of the beach had a steep drop. So we veered to the north trail from the parking lot past the KOA. This in early May 2023. But the wildflowers in this area were amazing, plentiful. Never saw this on my many previous visits.
