We are a small campground with 30 campsites. All sites have a fire ring and picnic table. RV sites are at least 40' x 40' using an open concept layout to maximize your comfort and view of the lake! We have three tent sites next to the lake. All sites have water and electricity as well as a fire ring and picnic table. Bathroom with flush toilets and showers close by. Rent one of our furnished RVs. We include (almost) everything you need for a fun vacation!
Swim, relax in the sun, build a sandcastle at our private beach, take your boat around the lake or fish from our dock. We have a playground, volleyball net, horseshoes, and family-friendly activities where kids and adults have a blast! We also have a rec hall with board games and DVDs.
Mac's Camping Area has been run by the McDonald family since the owner's grandfather cleared the land in 1970. Known to many as Mac, he believed camping should be affordable for all families. We pride ourselves in being a beautiful, fun, affordable family and pet-friendly campground. We place a high priority on customer service and adjusting to our current campers' wants and needs.
Via I-95 N, take exit 63 - Grey/New Gloucester (formerly exit 11). Go through the toll booth and take a right. At the intersection that immediately follows, take a left at the light and another immediate left onto ME-26 N/Shaker Rd. Stay on this for about 2.5 mi. Turn left between Exxon Gas and Dry Mills Store (N Raymond Rd). Continue for 9 mi. Go straight through the first stop sign (crossing Rt 11). At the stop sign bare slight left up the hill onto Megquire Hill Rd. Take a right onto Fernald Rd (dirt road). When you come to a "Y" in the road, bare left onto Larch Rd. There will be a general store on your left, bare right down the hill, follow signs to Mac's Camping Area.
Rude obnoxious owner, swimming itch in the water, pollen so bad you come down with allergies
No money being put into the grounds. After you pay everything showers still cost extra, really small sites, and on and on.
A great place. Very accommodating and friendly. Safe for little ones who just want to explore. The owner and her family are great! Thank you for making my family's week
We have been seasonal campers at Macs for over 10 years. Macs is family oriented for sure. It's simple camping. There are no video games for parents to spend money on. There is a lake for fishing and/or swimming. There are family activities, potlucks, and some breakfasts and dinners hosted by the campground for a reasonable fee. If you want quiet you can find it there. If you want to socialize with friends and have adult beverages you can. We enjoy our camp family very much and feel fortunate to be part of a such a wonderful campground.
We love Mac’s Camping Area! This is our first year as seasonal campers at Mac’s and we couldn’t be happier. The best part about it is the people – the ones who run it and the ones who camp there. Everyone has been so welcoming, friendly and helpful. They work hard to offer events and activities that are fun and create community. We’re also grateful for the hard work that goes into keeping the campground so nice. The grounds are beautiful, the lakefront is kept neat and personal touches are evident everywhere. The size of the campground means that everything is close, fairly level and easily accessible, which is important for my elderly parents. We’re looking forward to many years to come as seasonal campers at Mac’s!
We had a wonderful weekend renting an RV at Mac’s. The RV was very clean and well kept. The family running Mac’s is so friendly and professional. The lake is beautiful and peaceful! My kids stayed in the water the whole weekend. It happened to be “water works” themed weekend and there was a waterslide into the lake and games for the whole family. So much FUN for everyone. The kids kayaked, canoed, paddle boarded and caught fish. We will be back soon!
