Less than a minute from the Kings River Falls trailhead and nestled alongside the headwaters of the Kings River in Venus Arkansas. This is a remote and rugged campground with caves, bluffs, swimming holes and river a plenty. This campground has a grand exhibition of the same sandstone formation that is responsible for the Whitaker Point (Hawksbill Crag) formation. Clovis like points have been found here, and so one might assume the bluffs and crags here have been inhabited for millennia.
We have picnic tables and fire rings at each site. If you have a large group, please contact us before booking to ensure that we are able to accommodate your group. This 7-acre property is completely surrounded by Arkansas Natural Heritage-Natural Area. There are miles of trails and cooling waters at every turn.
If you like Kings River Falls, get ready to fall in love with this Red Fern Campground.
Lose yourself in a fairy-tale land. With endless places to explore and amazing natural features at every turn this experience will not disappoint.
Most of our campsites are just yards away from a public swimming area, which is shared between our property and the Arkansas Natural Area. You should expect local traffic at the main swimming area during your stay. We have a private swimming area on our property which is just a short hike from the developed campsites (Please ask the camphost for directions).
Please be aware that cell phone service is spotty to virtually non-existent. Also, it's a good idea to bring waterproof hiking shoes or water shoes since our camping spots may require walking across a low water creek. This campground also requires travel down miles of county-maintained dirt roads. Expect your car to get dusty. We are unable to accommodate travel trailers and RVs at this time. Parking at your campsite requires a drive across a low water creek, otherwise you will need to park and walk across. Lastly, bring tick defense for yourself and your pets.
You can map to the Kings River Falls trail head on google maps. From there its east maybe 100 yards further down 3500. You will cross a low water bridge over the Kings River (Its not marked but that's what it is.), and see an old school house on your right. There is a dirt road next to the school house, take that road and you will see a small parking area to your left, if you continue past the parking area the road curves around and stay to your left and it dead ends at the campground. You can park in the parking area or you can drive across the creek and park at your campsite.
Our property is marked with a Dripping Springs sign and also Private Property Guests Only and a couple of other signs. Each campsite has a picnic table and a fire ring.
New favorite place! Absolutely beautiful, we went in the middle of the week right after a lot of rain. We were the only ones there except for a friendly stray cat. It looks like they extended the parking area so I expect it will be busy in the summer time. The hike is well maintained and there are side trails for when it has rained.
What a beautiful slice of nature! The water color is unreal, and the scenery and geological formations are just as interesting. The hike was very easy, and children can also enjoy it if they stick to the trail and can easily step over good sized rocks in some spots.
Off the beaten path no near restaurants. Windy road in the middle of nowhere where some of it is gravel and rock road see pictures. Hike was about 20 minutes one way and we were a bit disappointed water was mostly dried up not like some of the awesome review pictures and there is no way to really know. Wish we had caught it on a better day. Looks amazing and hike was not difficult mostly rocks but not much of an incline.
This is an incredible spot! The water is the most amazing blue color, and even when the trail is muddy, it is easy to spot and walk. I recommend wearing boots on this trail as it is rocky, and can be very muddy. There is something gorgeous to see on every turn and generally easy to walk. I highly recommend if you are in the area! Please keep going past the bridge to park if the first parking spots are full. Some people blocked the road a bit by parking on the side of the road before the bridge. Just keep going a bit!
Gorgeous! Looking forward to going back when there’s more water.
It was pretty dry 8/18 due to lack of rainfall and high temps.
Long trail to get there, not difficult but a lot of rocks below the feet and tree roots. Definitely take a backpack.
