Beautiful area. At 12:30pm i dropped my line in for the very first time there. I wasn't there 20 minutes and had a fish ony line!!! It was a big one too!! Unfortunately i lost it due to line breaking but at least i caught a glimpse of it. Going back in the morning and this time im taking my fish net!!!
The access road around lake is a mess of big potholes that could be damaging to cars. A friend with me also saw a homeless man who he knows has been camping/living there for more than 6 months. Not a safe environment.
They were fixing all the roads in and around the whole campground don't know about fishing but fire flies and lightning bugs at night scared me till I realized what I was seeing lush forist all around and not to many bugs that pest kind of hot this time of year all in all I loved it town of Mencken is close by need eqinomic boost
Nice place to relax so close to town yet still feel that you are in a far off oasis. Peaceful & serene. Not bad for fishing but no swimming. You might find an occasional snake🐍 sunning itself on a rock.
A lake that offers free camping, what's not to like about that? If primitive camping is not your thing than you might skip this one but I brought a small gen to have a/c & lights, which made it tolerable in July heat. Plus we rode the dirt bikes around without a problem. Overall not a bad place to camp.
