This high-elevation campground is situated in lodgepole pine near a flat, open area in an historic gold mining area. It is often used by horse enthusiasts and hunters.
From State Highway 14 turn south on Crooked River Road #233. Proceed through old Orogrande town site, past the junction with Big Creek Meadows Road #311 to Orogrande Summit, past the junction with Road #233I and continue approximately 8 miles to the camp area. Access past the Road #233I junction is extremely rough - ATVs only recommended.
Beautiful setting. Maybe the best camping area in the park. Cooler than all the others, I think. Bathrooms didn't get cleaned every day during our week long stay. Thankfully they were cleaned before the last roll of toilette paper was gone.
Buttonhook has great boating docks. Nice to tie up to and have lunch go swimming, hike or just relax. Small little walk from the docks there is a restroom that is clean and nice. If you are out on the water nice place to visit.
