Iron Gate Reservoir is located about 10 miles east of Interstate 5 and continues upstream to Copco Reservoir. The road to Iron Gate Reservoir is about 15 miles north of Yreka, CA off of Interstate 5. Popular for boating, water skiing, and fishing.
Love, Love, Love the peaceful drive up to this Lake, we head towards Copco Lake right after and drive all the way around, takes a few hours but well worth it. We love to stop and enjoy the scenery as we walk around and explore. I absolutely Love the area where there is a mini waterfall, it's so cool, Very family friendly and we even saw Eagles & their nests on the way.
Great place to take the kids out and fish for yellow perch. A little hot during the summer.
If you're interested in geography this is a hidden gem there is more history and a variety of jasper, agate quartz crystal, arrowheads and rock formations unlike any you've seen before. I believe this is better than anything you can see in lasson national forest and there isn't any other people coming to see this or look for rocks. I almost feel bad just for mentioning it for fear it might be noticed to much
Wonderful place to camp... and it is FREE. I got a beautiful spot right next to the lake at Jenny Creek all to myself... and this was a Monday in mid-May. Port-a-Potty was clean... what more could you ask for! It is right next to BLM land that has quite a few wild horses. Unfortunately I didn’t see any on my short visit. Maybe next time!
I had a ball... power boating, fishing and hiking with my dog. Lots to do and lots to see... go while you can the dam will be removed next year according to my connections.
We may get a little more time to enjoy this and the other lakes on the Klamath... even years as they decide how to proceed with the dam removals.
