Best vacation I've had in a very, very long time. Highlands Resort is just spectacular!!! Updated resort with beautiful clean rooms/cabins/tents. The pool is refreshing and landscaping is absolutely breathtaking. The best thing about the resort is the peace & quiet, refreshing pool, comfortable beds, location, restaurants, and staff.

All the staff were so friendly, helpful and gave you your space too. Cathy is such a wonderful person, you can't help but want her to be apart of your own family.

I stayed 4 nights/5 days and I seriously left a peace of my soul there. I can't wait to bring my family back and I will def make a solo yearly trip to Highlands from now on.

Best hidden gem in California!!!

Update 8/29/23: I'm sorry Highlands! I'm sad to say I cheated and went somewhere else for my birthday week. Unfortunately, I keep thinking about you and wish I went back and spent my birthday week with you!! I promise to NEVER cheat on you again. Hope to get back home- where my heart and soul belong -VERY soon!!!

Highlands Resort is a gem! Small, private cottages, nestled in the redwoods, are connected by garden pathways which lead to the main building that houses a common area living room, kitchen and office. A Continental breakfast is included and, in nice weather, served in the outdoor firepit area. Highly recommended!

a peaceful nest in the redwoods above the lazy Russian River. The Highland Resort has thought of so many tasteful elements to make this little oasis peaceful, rejuvenating and inspiring. The rooms themselves are designed with great taste and amenities. the pool is perfect with lots of chairs, umbrellas, towels and shade. there are other cozy nooks around the property including a fire pit, 2 redwood circles w seating inside and large lounge/living room off the lobby. Breakfast is served on the patio and fire pit — a peaceful spot to talk quietly or meet others. We’ll be back!

I had a wonderful weekend at the Highlands Resort. Note: this place is no longer clothing optional. When the new owner purchased the property about two years ago, they changed that policy. So bring your bathing suit I organized a writers retreat here and really loved the setting in the woods with redwood trees all around but still walking distance to town. You're just around the corner from the Guerneville library (for reference). We visited right at the end of the season, so there weren't a ton of people in Guerneville, but the weather was still nice. The decor is great. You can tell a lot of thought was put into the finishes. I loved how the curtains matched the homemade pillows and the fabrics were carried throughout the property. We were a group of 5, so we were able to hold our meetings on site. We made use of the fairy ring seating, the fire pit, the tables at the pool, and the music room (the one day it rained). Each "room" is a separate cabin. They're pretty close to each other, but you can't really hear your neighbors. Each cabin has a little wet bar with a mini fridge and a sink, but there are also two cabins with kitchens and one with a soaking tub that you can reserve. In the summer they also have a campground in the back. There's no smoking in property, but there is another fairy ring of trees with seating in the parking lot that is the designated smoking area.

Breakfast was sparse but sufficient. If I were staying more than 2 nights, I would get tired of the yogurt, cold, hard-boiled eggs, and sweet bread every day, but for just 2 nights, it worked.

I really loved this location and would definitely stay again. The large open shower with public goods products was a pleasure to use. I enjoyed getting cozy with the fireplace in the room. It was a nice thing to fall asleep to and wake up to. It kept the room at a perfect temperature that you could control with a thermostat.

The people who work there are great and were helpful in providing suggestions for what to do in the area at what times. They helped to confirm which restaurants would still be open so late in the season and suggested wineries to visit. Many thanks to Cathy, Isabella, and Ashley for making this trip a success.

My husband and I recently spent three nights at this delightful place and couldn’t have been happier. The roomy cabin we stayed in (#10) was newly refurbished and charming, nestled in the woods. The gas fireplace kept the cabin cozy warm. The king bed was comfy and the shower was quite good. Cathy made sure that great hospitality was provided every step of the way. We’d love to return some day of our travels once again bring us to the glorious Sonoma coast. Highly recommend.
