Camping outside of developed campgrounds is permitted throughout much of the Forest. You are allowed to drive up to 300 feet off of an open road to set up camp, providing it will not result in damage to the land, is in an area that is not signed otherwise, or if restrictions are in place prohibiting that use.
Big sites with shade and/or open grass. Picnic tables and a vault toilet. Lovely place.
We loved camping here! Highly recommended hiking. So much to see and there are several caves that are awesome and make great pictures!
We went up for three days for my husband's birthday. It was so beautiful. There was actually no one else camping at the time. We did not see another human being until the day we were loading up to leave and some ATVs road by.
Beautiful scenery! Fun off road trails. Easy access to the campground. No facilities.
We are up here a lot with a family property nearby. I've only seen it over crowded a couple times over the years. As is true everywhere, 2020 has seen the highest number of visitors. There is room to spread out and a couple nice ATV trails to explore. The trails are approximately 20 miles one way.
If you do choose to check out this beautiful spot, please be kind to the locals be driving slowly on the dirt access roads. The dust can be really bad. Also, make sure your equipment is legal. The local Game Warden frequents the trails. He's a nice guy but he has a job to do and will ticket you if you're noncompliant.
