Gooseberry Mesa and Hurricane Cliffs trails are located in southern Utah’s red rock country. Views from the mesa rims along these trails are spectacular. To the north are massive sandstone sentinels of Zion National Park. Spread out below the west rim is a panorama of colorful desert mesas and water carved canyons.
These trails are designed to provide technically challenging mountain bike opportunities. Single track and slickrock wind across the mesa top in a series of interconnected trails providing a unique setting that will provide a high quality experience to all types of mountain bikers.
One of the Bureau of Land Management's "Backyard to Backcountry" treasures, information on the Gooseberry Mesa Trail was developed between IMBA and the St. George, UT, BLM office to provide world-class riding experiences. IMBA's data on the trail includes elevations, ratings, current conditions, photos, and comments.
Hurricane Hills Trailhead: From Interstate 15 Exit 16, head east on State Route 9 to Hurricane City for 9.5 miles. Turn right on Main Street. Take the first left onto State Route 59 and at 0.75 miles turn left into the trailhead. (To reach Canal Trail, hike 1.8 miles on the Rim Trail before turning left onto the Canal Trail.)
Great place to boondock. Easy road to enter from Apple Valley. The only service station in Apple Valley has RV stop but water pump is free to anyone. Good cell phone reception with Verizon. You can enter from Rockdale and Grafton Road but 4 wheel recommended and not recommended at all when wet.
Great scenery which make up for the lack of fluidity on the trails. There are short technical sections, overall a good time. Not a great place for a workout.
Loved GooseberryMesa! We stayed in the yurts which had a beautiful overlook. You don’t have a electricity or water so make sure your prepared. They have wood that you can donate for use. The trail to get there is little bumpy so have an SUV or go real slow. Taking the bikes to the north rim Trail was a blast! Definitely going back to ride all the other trails.
Good trail that is a little technical. The flow is a little choppy but, good for intermediate / advanced riders with great views.
Just a thought but, if those dots were dashes it might be a little easier to follow and keep the flow a little quicker.
Epic mountain biking trails, much of it over very unique rock formations; I felt like I was on another planet. Definitely technical in parts (especially South Rim, which is not for beginner riders). I started with the Practice trail to North Rim to South Rim. Had a blast here!
