Our Gold Basin yurt lies nestled among quaking aspens at 10,000 feet, near the end of the Gold Basin road. Available only during the winter, this yurt provides unparalleled access to backcountry touring among the largest peaks of the La Sal Mountains. A short 1½ mile tour from the Geyser Pass parking area and trailhead delivers you at the doorstep of limitless winter recreation and the yurt itself.
Guests here enjoy a cozy 20 foot yurt, accommodating 8 people. We offer two bunks, each sleeping one on top and 2 on bottom, as well as 2 large cots with sleeping pads (no bedding is supplied). A kitchen area fully stocked with all necessary cooking equipment, dining table and chairs, wood burning stove and small library with games round out this cozy and comfortable yurt.
Winter Directions: From the parking lot follow the groomed Geyser Pass road #071 east for 0.9 miles. Turn right at the USFS sign indicating Gold Basin road #241. Follow the groomed Gold Basin road for 1.2 miles. When the road turns sharply to the left and descends 100 yards the yurt will be visible through a clearing to the right. Leave the groomed trail here and make your way 50 yards to the yurt.
Short Cut: An optional route exists which eliminates approximately 1 mile of groomed trail. From the parking lot follow the groomed Geyser Pass road #071 east for 0.5 miles. After the road passes a large meadow on the left hand side keep an eye out for a skin track that leaves the road to the right and climbs steeply through the trees. Follow the skin track for approximately 0.4 miles until it rejoins the groomed Gold Basin road #241. Once back on the groomed trail follow the road for 0.5 miles. When the road turns sharply to the left and descends 100 yards the yurt will be visible through a clearing to the right. Leave the groomed trail here and make your way 50 yards to the yurt.
On reservable for winter months.
