Love this family run, former KOA, campground.

Now managed and run by Debbie (& family), the daughter of the former owner - Emerald Trails is a quiet retreat, with roomy back-in and pull thru spots, sporting plenty of shade in the warmer weather, convenient large trash barrels, picnic tables, and fire rings. 30 & 50 Amp service, water, & sewer hookups. Even tenter's have the choice of water, water & electric, or none at all.

The bath house is clean. There's a playground adjacent to the office, as well as the dump station nearby. And an ever growing little store right next door to the office/lobby - for supplies, ice, pops, & some thoughtful and cute gift/souvenir items. I wish I'd taken pics to add to this review.

If you're looking for a wilderness feel.. with all you need - aside from free internet & wifi - Emerald Trails won't disappoint. It's a friendly vibe here.

This is my 2nd stay. I like the camp & it's location a lot. It's got lots of (trimmed/maintained) large shade trees. It's quiet and well maintained. The owners are friendly, personable, & helpful. It feels like you're far away from everything - being on a Forest Preserve. But gas station/car wash, convenience stores are just a few miles away. As are WallyWorld (Walmart), & places to grab a meal.

It's a pleasant experience camping at Emerald Trails.

They even have tent sites with water and/or electric. Or neither if you prefer.

Last minute decided to go camping on Memorial Day weekend (poor planning, I know). This was the only place within reasonable driving distance from Chicago that had a spot open. We were extremely pleased that we found this "gem" [Emerald Trails- see what I did there ;) ]. Plenty of open space, clean facilities. We enjoyed walking around the paths on the property as well. No extensive hiking, but just what we needed to get outside for the weekend with our little one. Would definitely recommend this place!
