Ella Narrows Cabin is located on the shore of Ella Lake on eastern Revillagigedo Island. This location is great for families, providing a lot of space for kids to
run around. The cabin is open year-round for recreation and relaxation within the Misty Fiords National Monument Wilderness.
The site can be accessed by floatplane depending on conditions. Guests are responsible for their own travel arrangements and safety, and must bring several of their own amenities.
A 14-foot aluminum skiff with oars is provided, but guests must bring their own life vests. The lake offers excellent fishing for cutthroat trout, Dolly Varden and kokanee salmon.
Hunting is possible for Sitka black-tailed deer and black bear in designated seasons.
This 12x14-ft. pan-abode style cabin sleeps six and comes equipped with two single bunks, two double bunks, a table and benches, wood stove, splitting maul, broom, campfire ring and an outhouse. Firewood may be available, but visitors are encouraged to contact the Ketchikan Misty Fjords Ranger District to check the status of the woodshed.
Water and electricity are not provided. Water is available from the lake or a nearby creek, but guests should be sure to treat water before drinking or cooking with it. It is recommended that guests bring their own water supply.
Visitors should also bring sleeping bags, sleeping pads, cooking gear, lanterns or flashlights, food, toilet paper, garbage bags, a fire extinguisher
and fire starter. Rain gear and boots are recommended. Visitors are expected to pack out trash, gear and food and clean the cabin before leaving. Click here for more cabin details.
The cabin is tucked back from the lake in a stand of large old-growth spruce, hemlock and cedar, offering limited views of the lake and surrounding mountains. A stream bubbles nearby. A long stretch of cobble beach and a large white sand beach are located in front of the cabin.
This area is home to black bears, Sitka black-tailed deer, beaver, marten and mink. A variety of bird species can be spotted around the lake.
The cabin is approximately 24 air miles northeast of Ketchikan on Revillagigedo Island on the north end of Ella Lake. Access is by floatplane or boat. Refer to USGS Ketchikan C-4 and B-4. In fall, winter and early spring, the cabin may be inaccessible due to frozen lake surface (floatplanes cannot land). Please contact the Ketchikan Misty Fjords Ranger District for information prior to making reservations during these periods.
Only one change per reservation for all Alaska cabins is allowed. Change is defined as a modification to the start or end date of the reservation; after one change has been made, if additional changes are desired, the customer must cancel the current reservation and re-book the new dates.
We absolutely loved this cabin. Spent about two days here, but wish we could have stayed longer. Inside the cabin is a guest book with handwritten reviews dating back to ‘04. Honeslty, 99% of them are 5-star reviews.
It’s just a beautiful cabin with amazing fishing, sights, and quietness. There is a little bit of air traffic throughout the day, depending on when you stay, but it honestly wasn’t too bad. There is a pebble beach right outside the trail leading to the cabin, but a sand beach about 50 yards away that’s great for swimming. The trail to the cabin is about 30 yards long. The cabin is small, as the pictures show, but can hold 6 people. There is built in cabinets and shelves for whatever you bring. There is also a stove, but it can only be used for heat inside. It was warm while we were there so we just cracked the windows and didn’t use the stove; it was perfect. The cabin also comes with a broom and dust pan, two oars, plenty of dry wood. Make sure to check if the wood shed is filled before you come out, as some visitors have come out to a light wood supply. Speaking of which, the wood shed (which is right next to the cabin) also comes with an axe meant for slimming down some of the logs provided. There are two trails leading from the wood shed, one to a nearby creek and another to the outhouse. The outhouse wasn’t too bad, had toilet paper supplied, but you should bring some too just to be careful. There have been some visitors in the guest book who have talked about seeing bears at the outlet of the creek, but we didn’t see a single animal when we were there. There is a small fire pit right next to the cabin, as well as a fire pit on the beach.
When you reserve the cabin, you will see that it asks that you leave no trace, so if you do have a fire on the beach or by the cabin, clean up as well as you can. Also, do keep the cabin clean as visitors have before you. Keep the internal wood supply stocked after you leave too.
All in all, this cabin was amazing. Couldn’t find a single review of the place, and rarely any pictures before we came. So, here is my tiny gift to future visitors. Take the flight out, you will fall in love with this cabin.
