Dewey Lake Shelters offer a day-use area on the shores of Dewey Lake in eastern Kentucky. Located just west of the Appalachian Mountains, the lake shore offers a peaceful, forested setting with plenty of outdoor recreation opportunities for groups of up to 150 guests.
The lake is surrounded by rolling, forested hills that rise hundreds of feet above the water. The thick forests and calm water provide habitat for a variety of animals, including bald eagles, black bear, elk, deer, osprey and otters. Fall foliage displays brighten the lush green forests each fall.
The picnic shelters are situated on an open, grassy area with plenty of space for children to play. A hiking trail is located near picnic shelter 4.
Fishing is a popular activity from boats and the shoreline, and anglers will find bass, crappie, brim, bluegill, catfish and muskie. Hunting is also allowed in various areas throughout the land surrounding the lake.
Jenny Wiley State Resort Park, which lines much of the western shore of the lake, has many additional amenities and activities, such as off-road bicycling and hiking trails and a marina with boat rentals and docking facilities.
Dewey Lake offers four covered picnic shelters, ideal for family reunions and other large group events. All shelters have electric hookups and are near a playground. Shelter 2 is also adjacent to a baseball field, and shelters 3 and 4 are closest to Dewey Dam.
From U.S. Route 23, turn right onto Route 3 east, which becomes Route 321. Continue for 1.9 miles, then turn onto Route 302 to the Dewey Lake Project Office and Visitor Center.
Was cleaned and prepared for our arrival..plenty of seating..electric available as well as rest rooms.
Very nice location..would definite use again
My husband and I took our little boy here over the weekend and had so much fun. It was so peaceful and beautiful...I took some great pics!! It's also a great place for a birthday party or cookout!!
This is a great local park to take kids to play. It also has a large picnic table area and BBQ grills for a cookout. There's also volleyball and basketball court for adults. Anyone will have fun here. Even if you just go check out the spillway, which is really neat.
We wanted to share a Sunday lunch under a small shelter with a few friends. So nice to find one just above the dam. We enjoyed it, and especially the Clean tables with convenient trash receptacles being close. We left it as we found it, so someone else could have the same happy experience. Thanx for your work that made it such a pleasant, shady and cool location.
Beautiful spot with picnic areas, fishing, scenic vistas, and lot of playgrounds for the kids. It’s remote, so pack a picnic, but lots of fun.
