Welcome!
The only authentic 1880's underground gold mine tour in the Northwest!
**Winter or summer, the Silver Valley is a great place to vacation! **The Crystal Gold Mine, near Kellogg, Idaho was one of the first hard rock mines in the Silver Valley. Worked during the 1880’s; closed by hiding the mine, it was rediscovered in 1991, reclaimed in 1996, and opened as a tourist historical attraction.
The work was all done in candlelight by hand. The guided underground tour explains how they drilled with "Hand Steels" using "Single Jacks" and "Double Jacks" (Hammers), how they traced the quartz vein using 1880 methods, how they tested the vein for gold. Beautiful stalactite crystals of smithsonite in an array of colors coat the walls. Gold and wire silver can still be seen in the quartz vein.
Crystal Gold Mine can be reached by taking Idaho Exit 54 on Interstate 90 to the Miner's Memorial (located on the North side of the freeway). Turn left (west) on Silver Valley Road, and go two miles.
Do not book through them. You will not get refunded a penny if you cancel. The prices given on the website are not real. Depending on how busy they are is how much you get charged. I do not recommend this gold digging place. I booked 1 night and canceled way in advance and I got no return. $110 down the drain!
In regards to your response. The gentleman on the phone stated I would get my full return because I canceled within 24 hrs of booking.
I agreed on losing $25 not the full amount.
You are crooks!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We only did the gold mine tour and emerald strike sluicing bag. My girls had a wonderful time and we all learned so much! Fantastic tour guide. He was knowledgeable, kind, well-spoken, and very friendly.
The emerald strike bags were full of pretty stones and had some raw emeralds. Looking for a display for the rocks now.
They made our mine tour experience with a VERY inquisitive 4 year old a great one! They were patient with his many questions and made sure my husband and I enjoyed ourselves as well. 10/10!
This was the BEST little Gold Mine Visit. Perfect for families, especially for older toddlers or elementary aged kids. A little wet and chilly so make sure the kids bring a jacket for the tour. Super educational. We got to pick out our hard hats before the trip and the bathroom facility was super clean. Some of the mine was blocked off due to old flooding from the mining company, but the main shaft featured Purple & Blue Smithsonite as well as a Quartz & Gold vein running through the mine. Our tour guide turned off the lights and lit a candle just as the miners would have done. The 1hr panning for gold was super fun and we got to keep the tiny treasures that we found. Ten out of five stars!! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Best tour we have ever experienced! The mine was excellent but I will say that our tour guide made the experience amazing!! He was super down to earth, knowledgeable and even did an awesome job answering my son’s questions.. I should mention my son has special needs and is difficult to understand and he made sure to answer every question he had. I may not know much about our tour guide, a.k.a. hardhat wolverine but I’m basically in love with him and the cave was pretty cool too! Okay really cool!!
We traveled from Washington state. There was five of us that took the tour, an old friend of mine and my three kids. They all had a fabulous time. I would definitely recommend this tour!
