The campground is located above Eggleston Lake on a mountain side thick with spruce trees. It is at an elevation of 10,100 feet. A few sites overlook the lake. Sites 5 and 6 are tent only - no turn around. 11 campsites total. Maximum spur length - 25 ft. The mosquitoes are plentiful; bring repellent.
In Collbran, CO, at "Access Grand Mesa" sign, take 58 « Rd. south 1.9 miles to "T" intersection. Turn left, staying on 58 « Rd. (which becomes 59 Rd.), and go 5.8 miles to Forest Rt. 521. Continue straight on Rt. 521 (gravel) and go 12.5 miles to campground sign. Turn right into campground.
Perfect place to start the trail, but it will take a whole day if you plan to walk the complete loop.
Beautiful but people aren't following the fire ban. They still think it's ok to have a fire. Dangerous. Where are the Rangers??????!!!
Nice for a dry campground. Creek nearby for water. Overlooks a small reservoir. Beware of the domesticated Fox that isn't afraid of anything. Will jump on the picnic table with you sitting there.
This is one of the best lakes I've been too at the Grand Mesa. Campground is very secluded and quiet. I would just be careful taking a small car or campers through the only entrance as it has been washed by the rain so alot of rocks and its a bit steep. All in all a great place to be.
