From Christmas Valley, Oregon travel east on County Road 5-14 for 8 miles. Turn left (north) on County Road 5-14D and travel another 8 miles. Turn right (east) at the “T” and travel 3 miles on County Road 5-14E to the entrance of the Sand Dunes. Another 4 miles on Bureau of Land Management Road 6155 will bring you to the Lost Forest.
Beautiful sandy beaches without the beach, the sand was created during the formation of Crater Lake. Excellent stargazing and a lot of peace and quiet. Be advised, if you plan on driving a 4x4 vehicle it will need to be a 4WD and not an all-wheel drive or you will most certainly get stuck on the dunes. In a Toyota 4WD, you’ll want to use 4LO and engage A-TRAC instead of using Multi-Terrain Select. In Jeeps and Land Rovers, best to put in 4LO with the terrain set to auto. Subarus will have extreme difficulty without an experienced off road driver. You are supposed to have a whip flag on the dunes.
Wide open land with alot of dune space to ride on. Porta potties are on the occasional busy months, but is dry camping. Great spot, definitely recommend for sand riders, looking for fun & some scenery. This is a dry lake bed, have seen some fossils, and cool rock formations.
Sand Sand and more Sand to play with, it was really fun :)
Need a dune FLAG to ride the dune .
please have one , it can save you life out there :)
You also can stay in the free rv parking area at the dune entrance ( bring some ear plug if you want to sleep , definitely was not a quiet night people did party almost all night! )
I wish one day to go back:)
