Walker Pass Campround is located just off of California State Highway 178 and at the junction of the Owens Peak and Cache Peak segments of the Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail. Located at 5,000 feet, there are pinyon pines and a few Joshua trees in this semi-arid setting and outstanding views of the dry, rugged foothills of the Southern Sierras. The campround includes eleven walk in sites for Pacific Crest Trail hikers and tent campers. The camprgound also has two sites for car camping. All sites have a picnic table and fire ring. Hitching racks and corrals are available for horses. No potable water is available at this site.
Follow highway CA-178 approximately 9 miles west from the junction of CA-14 or 35 miles east of the town of Lake Isabella. Walker Pass Campground is just west of Walker Pass and well signed. From highway CA-178 West, the Campground will be on the right. From CA-178 East the Campground will be on the left.
Reasonable primitive campgrounds but the traffic from the 178 is pretty loud. There was a surprisingly large amount of bees given how hot and dry the climate is.
Free campsite with a beautiful view. There are two car sites with fire pits, tables, and shade structures. There is no running water and no trash cans, so make sure to bring water and trashbags. I stayed here for two nights and had a wonderful experience, the stars are amazing!
Great place for day camping or overnight camping, quiet, peaceful, great views
BLM campground at Walker Pass PCT trailhead with a couple vaulted toilets. Mostly tent and car camping, a few can support smaller RV/trailer that can get through the huge potholes, take it slow and maneuver. No water, trash or cell service, please leave no trace. Night sky is incredible!
