From Gerlach; go 4 miles north on NV 34, then bear northeast (right) on the BLM road signed for the Black Rock Desert Wilderness Study area. Access also from NV 48, 4 miles south of Gerlach or from Soldier Meadows Road, north of Gerlach. Roads within the NCA are impassable in inclement weather.
It was Black Rock City, created from the people of Burning Man. It wasn't as bad as the 6 o'clock news put out. We had a little dust, rain, which is rare, but dried out quickly. I had a blast, and saw a lot of art.
Love burning man! Never bring animals! Porto potties only here during burn otherwise an empty desert
This is a very remote area with no services or water. Do your homework and be prepared as roads are often difficult to maneuver. All that said, it's beautiful and dramatic and really something to know you travel in the footsteps of those who sacrificed so much for a chance to achieve a dream.
My visit to this place is connected with Burning Man. I was here at the end of August - beginning of September. Dust storms occur periodically. During the day the temperature was a little over 30 degrees Celsius, at night it dropped to 10-15 degrees Celsius. Insanely beautiful sunsets and sunrises. The worst thing is if it rains here. Traffic will be completely paralyzed regardless of the type of transport. But the soil dries out quickly enough under the sun's rays.
Black Rock Desert is the annual site for the Burning Man festival. It's a stunning location, visually and energetically. Seemingly endless stretch of dried clay and sand. Make for a magical place to host a festival like Burning Man.
