The Blackrock Canyon is associated with the Chinese Peak – Blackrock Rock Trail System, providing non-motorized and motorized users over 40 miles of trails to utilize for OHV, equestrian, mountain biking and hiking.
This site is equipped with sheltered picnic tables, fire rings, vaulted restrooms and 2 trailhead parking lots. Additionally, there is an ATV loading/unloading ramp at the lower lot.
Site and trail rules and regulations are posted at the trailheads. The site is closed to shooting year around.
To reach the trailheads, take Interstate 15 south of Pocatello, Idaho, to the Portneuf Area exit. Go left and then turn on Blackrock Canyon Road to the trailheads.
Fun trail ride, awesome views, mild off-roading. Some steep climbs.
Love to run my dogs here. Lots of trails. Bring your camera. The open sky mixed with the changing colors on the mountain trails are beautiful!
The layout for camping and restroom are great. there is a rattle snake nest at the first turn walking to the camping sights on the concrete path. Every camping sight has a gazebo that is very nice but they all have wasp nest hives in them.
Honestly a five star camping spot if maintained a little more.
2 days ago a full grown 200 lbs mountain lion ran up on my buddy his dog and I. Nothing got hurt luckily but I would Highly recommended to bring protection if going here.
The bathroom here is atrocious!! It's little more than an out house! Flies everywhere inside the hole-in-the-ground that is considered the toilet! They're breeding inside the tank which was never cleaned out in the 2 weeks we were there! Plus, people constantly shooting in areas that are clearly marked as "No Shooting" zones!! Other than these problems it was a beautiful place to camp near the campsites. I wouldn't recommend it though.
