The Island can be reached by Ferry from Charlevoix or by air. Campground is located on the east side of the Island, seven miles south of the harbor and accessible via the East Side Road
This is one of the best campgrounds I have ever been to. Private, quiet, great amenities (pit toilet and water pump worked fine) and a phenomenal view of the lake with easy access to the beach. We stayed there for 3 nights and easily could have gone for a week.
I park at the campground to enjoy the lake of a big sandbay. Tons of rock collecting and you can walk for miles on the shoreline. Campsite number 11 is the best if you do want to camp.
This was our second year staying here and we will be back for a third. The campground is rustic with the right amenities.. water and toilets. We arrived to only 2 other campers using the property and that's what makes this an amazing place to be. It quiet, beautiful woods to explore, and peaceful for resting the mind and body. I'd give this 6 stars if possible!
I just walked through on a winter hike but it’s a beautiful setting and think it would be amazing in the warmer months to camp here. Gorgeous location and adjacency to Lake Michigan.
Beautifully wooded quiet campground. Beach & campground are beautiful. Private homes do border north end of campground. Lots of traffic back & forth to the beach and to use out house. Not too busy as far as campers while we were there 2nd week of July, plenty of campsites to choose from, no reservation required or even an option, just show up, pick your site and go back to the entrance to pay with an envelope. Some campsites look like they hadn't been used in over a year based on the ferns growing in the middle of the campsite so that tells me they don't get completely full ever. Most people choose the improved campground on the north end of the island. New large concrete fire pits installed around 2022 or 2023. So you will need a large metal grate retool to put your food in to cook over the fire but just setting something on the concrete heats up pretty good.
This campground has three unisex out houses, but no showers or electricity available. But has a hand pump for water that squealed so bad you could hear it across the campground. A little silicone spray quieted it up. We used a power invertor connected to our car battery for a shower by heating water in a large metal pot on the edge of the fire pit & used a recirculation pump and a hose to spray the water over us while standing between some tarps hanging on the end of the doors of our van. People do bring their dogs. Should be kept on the leash and picked up after... Trash barrels are spread throughout campground. Set off in the woods with lids.
