We are located in the heart of southern Illinois in the middle of all of the nice horse back riding hiking and kayaking drop offs we have several cabins to choose from and guided horse back rides to offer. You can bring your own horse and venture out on the trails or requests a guide by appointment.
Come up the hill office is in tack shop
This place maybe rough around the edges but we had a great time. All the staff are so nice and friendly. Loved our little cabin and the horseback riding was fun.
Staff are always friendly and helpful. Even had a full time camper help with parking my trailer.
Booked a cabin for next year with their online booking site and was charged $124. I realized they had a slightly larger cabin available for $155 so I booked that one, and then canceled the first.
Never received a refund for the first cancelation so I had to call to receive my refund. I was not given a full refund; my credit card statement shows a refund of $104 instead of $124. Plans changed so I also canceled the other cabin reservation as well, and had to call once again to receive a refund. I did not get a full refund of $155, but of $124 instead.
Their cancelation policy states all cancelations have to be made within 30 days. The reservation was for April of 2024 so I absolutely canceled within an ample timeframe. I'm not sure what the problem is with their website or why they don't give back a full refund but heads up to anyone looking to book.
This campground must have been beautiful once…but not anymore. Toilets are scary, and unsafe. Most of the buildings are deteriorating, horses and other farm animals are not being cared of. Stay away.
I've been on several trail rides but this is the first one that felt like a "real" trail ride and not just sitting on a horse that couldn't veer off course if it wanted to. I received great instruction and felt like I gained competence and confidence in riding. The trail we rode was challenging - I was surprised how much a horse can do! Definitely made me more excited about getting my own horse one day. The Shawnee is beautiful and to see it from horseback is a memory I won't forget. Highly, highly recommend Bear Branch.
