Beautiful campground to spend a few weeks in our RV. Make sure to get reservations early. Quiet, nice hiking trails and friendly people. However, humans went to the bathroom in the woods and left piles of feces and toilette paper. There is a bathroom very close, so this seems bizarre to me. It is also just gross and bad form. Don't be this person, if you are going to go to the bathroom in the woods, bury it. Leave it better then you found it please:)
Located 10 minutes from the ferry terminal and 20 minutes from downtown Juneau, it’s a great natural campground - with full services. The sites are very nice and the campground is located right on the glacial Mendenhall lake overlooking the glacier. Some sites provide direct view to the glacier. Very pretty. We had a pull-through site that was very big, but no view. The facilities were a little far and unfortunately, the showers were not working, but overall, we really enjoyed our stay for 3 nights.
Medenhall Campgrounds is so beautiful. Has perfect camping Layout. Choices in bathrooms. (Out house or flush/stalls and sinks) Shower rooms may be closed. You can check on recreation.gov app and make your reservation there too. They have well kept firepits for cooking or wood burning. No nails or metal is allowed to be burned. There is accessible parking and hiking, They are family and dog friendly, Affordable and the property is well maintained. Through out the park. They have many different campsites to chose from. Rv's for example with water sewer and electric hook up🏕 also lock up your food there can be a little bit of bear traffic if there is food out.
This is the most scenic campground I have stayed at thus far. Our site had a great view of Mendenhall glacier and lake. It also has numerous ponds within the campground to walk by via an interpretive trail. Booking in advance online is required. Our stay there was cut short by an unusual glacier breach which made us evacuate from the campground. Fortunately we heeded the notice as the flooding was severe in and around the campground.
We camp here regularly throughout the summer season. I appreciate being able to choose my campsite online, and remind myself which site it is using the map. The staff are always friendly and do their jobs well. Kids have a blast just playing in the woods, riding bikes and picking berries. Restrooms are always clean and a flushing toilet is a luxury when it comes to Juneau camping. The best part? The fact that it’s drive up and you don’t need to hike or haul gear.
