Small campground along the Castle Valley Road
Go east on Highway 128 for 15 miles. Turn south on the Castle Valley Road. Follow this road for about 11 miles to a Y in the road. Take the road going to Gateway, Colorado. The camping area is located about 0.5 miles past this intersection on the east side of the road.
This is such a special place, tucked away among the most incredible geology.
The restroom with running water was such a blessing!
This is part of the Fremont State Park. Lots of trees, well maintained, clean restrooms at the entrance and at least one set of pit toilets on the end. There's a really short, easy hiking trail adjacent to camp area and another trailhead that looks to go for miles. Some trail guides say it's flat, but be prepared for some steep, short climbs.
$20 a night will get you nice restrooms, water taps, trash bins, and pass to the Fremont Indian museum. Nice big spaces to camp in for big rigs. Nice gravel and dirt road to get there off the interstate. Beautiful camping spaces surrounded by shrubbery and Pinnacles of strangely formed rocks. Far enough from the interstate that the traffic noise is not that noticeable. Also can use Wi-Fi hotspot in Museum parking lot. Only about 27 mi from richfield, and about 23 miles from Joseph and Monroe which are quiet little towns to pick up groceries, eat out, and visit Hot Springs for soaking.
Incredible place to be, with a lot of exploration. There are also a lot of close adventure activities close. About a 1 hour drive to a town with a restaurant. Many of the camp sites are very large. It is fairly dusty, so don't stay too close to the road. Incredible landscapes.
